Since 2007 the Idaho Rally has catered to many individuals who fantasize about surfing over gravel and dirt roads at breakneck speeds in carefully built machines. All with the common hope to be the fastest from point A to point B. Idaho is the ultimate playground for these drivers and their machines. The beautiful scenery, winding roads, incredible elevation changes, and the decomposed gravel road surfaces, Idaho is truly an incomparable region for Rallyists in North America. It is 2012 and the Rally is back June 9th and 10th! This year we are going the extra mile for every one involved. We have added all the registration processes to the website. We added a Forum to allow everyone to keep up to date and in contact with each other. We have also added the option to print out a history of your participation. When things go right.
| I, like many people work in industries where the word "feedback" strikes fear into the hearts of the strongest men and women. The word is usually followed by an explanation on what went wrong. And in the worst cases is followed by a visit to the unemployment line. With this in mind you can imagine the feeling I got when I received a notification on my phone while shopping at the local Wally World with the title "Volunteer feedback from 2011". As I read the post a smile kept creeping onto my face. Each period designating the end of a sentence forced the thought into my head "OK this is where the other shoe drops". And it never came. I know I speak for all the event organizers when I say. Thank you! We worked hard. Traveled to other states to train and spent many hours making this a success. Volunteer feedback from 2011 I just wanted to leave a little feedback from my experience last year at the rally. I am a Ham operator and volunteered to run as a sweep team member. Other than Kurt, the sweep team coordinator; I knew no one from the rally group. I have known Kurt for some time through local 4x4 clubs; so wound up gleaning alot of info from him. My first contact was at the volunteer registration and met a lady (I think Marie) who seemed genuinely glad that I volunteered and steered me through the quick process while answering every question I had. Backtracking a bit, I have 40 years of off roading and vehicle related experience. Yes, I am an old fart-so sue me. LOL I spent 10 years chasing Robby Gordon and other desert racers through Baja and S. California; currently involved with three 4x4 clubs, crew on two mud race vehicles, and spent two years on John Currie's crew when he won the World Rock Crawling Championship. Last years rally came and I found alot of waiting time, but with being new-got to ask alot of questions. While waiting for our stage to start, got to talk with several drivers/co-drivers. I was simply blown away by the gracious attitude that they all had for the volunteers! I have never seen that level of great attitude towards volunteers in any motorsports event. I had drivers that as soon as they saw that I was wearing a volunteer shirt; they would unbuckle their safety gear-get out of the racecar, and shake my hand while thanking me for being a volunteer. I was so amazed at that great attitude. And then the food. I am used to taking food along for myself and was not expecting lunches, etc. Everytime I turned around, someone would come by offering sandwiches and water! I think I gained a few pounds over the weekend. And the spaghetti dinner Sun was wonderful. Again, everyone I met was just overjoyed to see volunteers for the rally. Even down to the folks serving food, just amazing. Thank you to the rally group for letting me be a tiny part of this event. I have already volunteered for the 2012 event. BY: Tumbleweed |
